GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — On July 18, 2022, officers with the Grand Junction Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 call stating that an adult male had been stabbed at Hawthorne Park. Upon arriving on the scene officers located the victim who had been stabbed in the chest.

The victim was immediately transported to the hospital by medical personnel. The area was then secured with a perimeter set up around the park and officers began interviewing witnesses. An adult male suspect was located near the park a short while later. The suspect was arrested without incident.

Michael Yellowhair, age 52, of Grand Junction was identified as the suspect and charged with the following:

  • 2nd Degree Murder
  • The initial investigation indicated that the two males were involved in a verbal altercation that turned physical resulting in the victim being stabbed in the chest. The victim would later pass away due to the injuries sustained in the altercation. The Mesa County Coroner’s Office will be responsible for releasing the identity of the victim, once proper notifications have been made.
