GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Unaffiliated voters in Mesa County will be able to take part in the upcoming primary election. The only catch: you have to choose which party’s primary you’d like to be a part of.

Voters that know which primary that would like to be a part of can update their voter registration and declare a ballot preference in advance at govotecolorado.gov. Declaring a ballot preference does not change your voter registration status from unaffiliated. It simply limits the ballots you receive to the one you choose.

Voters that do not choose a ballot will still be able to participate. These voters will receive ballots from both parties, but are asked to vote and return only one of the packets.

All voters should start to receive ballots after they’re mailed out during the first week of June.

You can choose the ballot you receive at UChoose.CO.gov.
