GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Hilltop will be preparing 550 meals on Christmas Eve for seniors who are homebound for the holidays. The is a sharp increase from the typical 350 meals delivered and is a testament to the continued increase in the number of individuals in our community who are facing food insecurity.
This is Hilltop’s eighth year providing holiday dinners to the clients of Meals on Wheels, the St. Mary’s Medical Center program that delivers nutritious meals to area seniors 363 days a year. Hilltop wanted to not only support Meals on Wheels staff with a much-needed day off but to ensure their clients receive a hot meal on Christmas Eve. The meals are provided free of charge.
The meals will be prepared by the kitchens of Hilltop featuring ham with all the traditional sides and a special dessert. Over 125 community volunteers and Hilltop staff will deliver the meals to seniors between 1:00 and 5:00 pm. Strict COVID precautions will be taken for both the preparation of the meals, as well as the deliveries, which will utilize a drive-through pick-up system.
