In the midsts of COVID-19, St. Mary’s desperately needs blood donors

Local News

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — In the midst of a crisis over coronavirus St. Mary’s still needs our community to help donate blood.

Five blood drives have been canceled this week, leaving the regional blood center 150 units behind.

According to St. Mary’s, there is no data that says coronavirus or any other respiratory virus can be transmitted through a blood transfusion.

Donating blood does not lower your immune system and healthy people should not hesitate to donate.

The blood center is increasing safety protocols in the form of asking all donors to use hand sanitizer throughout the donation process.

St. Mary’s is also enhancing the disinfection of all surfaces and equipment and asking donors to call and make appointments so crowding can be kept under control.

If you want to do your part in this crisis, please call 970-298-2555 to make your appointment.
