GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - A Montrose man charged with multiple accounts of child sex crimes is sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.
26 year old Joshua Hemphill appeared at the Mesa County Justice Center today for his sentencing hearing.
He will serve an in-determinate sentence of 15 to life with the possibility of parol.
Hemphill is charged with multiple counts of child sex crimes in both Mesa and Montrose counties, including sexual assault on a child, sexual assault on a child in a position of trust, and multiple counts of internet sex crimes.
The DA's office pushed to title Hempill as a "sexually violent preadapt" due to a variety of criteria, but the judge ultimately decided against it.
He was arrested in August of 2017.
He is currently set to be back in court in Montrose on February 25th at 1:30 for another sentencing hearing in that county, and will serve both Montrose and Mesa county's sentences at the same time.
