GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.
The Pomona Elementary Parent Teacher Organization is hosting a Keep the ‘A’ in STEAM event with the goal to raise $14,000 to keep the art program at the school and to keep the teacher who loves to teach it.
According to a Pomona PTO member, School District 51 does not fund art classes. So, the event aims to raise the funds to keep the program going full steam ahead.
The fun filled event includes a silent auction featuring local art work and art work from the students at Pomona, gift certificates, event tickets, merchandise and more.
Bids start anywhere from $1 to $300, and the school needs all you can give to give the gift of learning art. Jennifer Steerman says, “Art is important because it gives an outlet to some of those kids that don’t otherwise have something that they love in school. And some of our students just love that, and we want to give them that piece. It’s important because it lets you express yourself, and be who you are.”
Steerman is helping with the event which also includes art activities for kids, live art demo, a food truck, and a bake sale.
The Keep the ‘A’ in STEAM event runs from 5pm to 7pm on Friday at Pomona Elementary.
