Laboring on Labor Day

Local News

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — As the holiday weekend comes to an end, many people are enjoying Labor Day with a final day off. They are spending their Monday celebrating with friends and family, while others are still laboring.

For instance, baristas are still spending today serving you your morning cup of coffee. Doctors and nurses are still keeping you healthy, and law enforcement is still patrolling the roads for your safety.

For those who are still working, you may think these employees feel excluded from the holiday festivities. On the contrary, they are actually happy to be working and helping the community.

Patti Heartstill from Small Mall on Main says, “we love being part of the community. Especially, when we get to provide a place to go when there aren’t a lot of other options.”

David Foster from Kiln Coffee Bar also says, “I actually enjoy working holidays because for the most part people are really in a positive space, and it’s always fun to interact on positive days.”
