GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX)–Mass shootings have become more prevalent in our country that ever before. It seems every other week, a mass shooting or threat has been reported. Colorado’s lawmakers are addressing this concern though, as they meet with local end federal law enforcement to help address security concerns at places of worship.

Following the tragic shooting at a Charleston, South Carolina church in 2015, lawmakers implemented a program that held security seminars for religious institutions across Colorado. Unfortunately, COVID halted those seminars until recently–but officials say it’s time for a comeback. This is the second seminar in the past couple of months, but officials say they plan to host several more this year.

While there may not have been any recent attacks, or even threats here on the western slope — authorities want these places of faith to be prepared in case the unthinkable happens.
