GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — A Grand Junction girl and her family give back to others spending the holidays in the hospital.

Five-year-old Aubrie Hughes was born with a heart defect. She’s already had three open-heart surgeries in her life.

Aubrie’s family remembers spending their first Christmas with Aubrey in the hospital as she overcame many obstacles.

During that time, friends and community members brought the family gift bags to help them get through the holiday season. Since that Christmas, the Hughes family brings presents to patients at St. Mary’s who are spending the holidays in the hospital.

The Hughes family visited st. mary’s hospital Friday morning with dozens of gift bags. Aubrie’s mom explains why this kind gesture is so important to their family.

The Hughes family says they have over 300 gift bags this year. They say they were able to gather all the gifts through donations from community members.
