Major Redlands Brush Fire Prompts Hundreds to Evacuate

Local News

A rapidly spreading brush fire in the Redlands that apparently originated in the area of Rosevale Court prompted the evacuation of hundreds of homes on Monday evening for those who live south of Monument and D Roads.

The evacuation zone later extended south to Little Park Road and Little Park Court.

Officials initially advised affected residents to go to the Safeway store at 2512 Broadway in the Redlands.

The Red Cross and School District 51 later opened an evacuation center for displaced residents at Dual Immersion Academy at 552 West Main Street. Residents were advised to evacuate to this location, with buses being routed to the Safeway store for residents who needed transportation to the evacuation center.

Authorities said power was cut to the entire evacuation area to reduce further damage due to fires caused by downed power lines.
