GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Grand Junction Police Department (GJPD) officials have told KREX that an incident has taken place at an apartment complex located near American Furniture Warehouse on American Way in Grand Junction.

Officers with GJPD responded to The Railyard at Rimrock located at 200 Railyard Loop for a report of shots fired. When officers arrived, they secured the perimeter and attempted to contact an individual in one of the apartment units involved with the incident.

According to an official release, the initial investigation indicated “that a bail agent went to the address to serve a warrant for a wanted suspect.” The individual pulled out a weapon and the bail agent fired a single gunshot that missed the suspect.

A shelter in place was sent to residents inside the apartment complex and officers began evacuating the units that were close by.

GJPD, Mesa County SWAT, and the Incident Dispatch Team are all on location. In addition to those forces, GJPD used their drone to assist with tactical operations.

GJPD says the incident is believed to be contained and there is no threat to the public. The residence was cleared, but the subject was not located inside.

When reached for comment The Railyard at Rimrock stated they have “no comment” at this time.
