Several people announced their candidacy for office Friday afternoon at the Mesa County Republican Luncheon.

Many came out to show their support, as each candidate expressed why they would be best fit for office.

Each candidate was given five minutes to introduce themselves, as well as share their platform to the public.

Due to the race still being in the beginning stages, many running do not have an opponent just yet. However, there were multiple candidates who announced their candidacy for Mesa County Treasurer, as well as Mesa County Clerk and Recorder.

For Mesa County Treasurer, both Sheila Reiner and Michael Day expressed why they would be best for the position.

“I am very familiar with the county structure. I am familiar with collaborating with multi levels of government. I’m also familiar with our community partners and supervising staff,” said Reiner.

“I’m a precinct committee person for District 7. I am a bonus member with the party. I’ve been to the capitol and have gone to bat for the people. I believe the voice of the people is what matters,” said Day.

The treasurers office collects funds, conducts an annual tax sale, and works with other county departments hand in hand.

Multiple candidates have also announced that they will be running for Mesa County Clerk and Recorder. Bobbie Gross and Tina Peters are both running for the position.

“I’m the certified elections official in Colorado. I’m going to be nationally certified as elections administrator in July of this year. I bring the dedication and experience in both recording, elections, and motor vehicle,” said Gross.

“I’ve had 31 years as a private business owner. I’ve homeschooled my kids, and I’ve worked as a flight attendant. I’ve been out in the public and I know what it takes,” said Peters.
