Military care package scam

Local News

Grand Junction, Colo. – An old scam has returned to Grand Junction, according to ‘Operation Interdependence’. People are falsely asking for donations for ‘care packages’ to send to people in the military.

The scammers are reportedly going door-to-door in residential areas asking people for money to send care packages to troops overseas. This scam has happened in previous years, and police are monitoring the situation.

‘Operation Interdependence’ specializes in shipping packages to troops across the country, and around the world, and cautions everyone to think twice before donating to someone at your doorstep,

“There’s only two organizations in Grand Junction that do care packages and that is ‘O.I.’ and ‘Blue Star Mothers,’ and neither one of us goes around asking for money, so if anybody gets somebody knocking on the door saying that they’re collecting for the military, they are not,” says Operation Interdependence’s Karon Carley.

According to police, last year the scammers advertised the same care package scheme in front of grocery stores.
