GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.
At 2:26 PM the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to reports of a mobile home on fire in the area of Orchard Avenue and 29 ½ Road according to fire officials.
Neighbors called to report a home on fire with smoke and flames seen from their residence, and Carolina Trujillo is one of those neighbors. “We called 911 and the Xcel Energy company for the gas, and then it wasn’t even 7 minutes, and it just blew. The windows started shattering, and I heard a lot of popping noises. I don’t know if there was ammo in the house”, says Trujillo.
When crews arrived they found a mobile home fully involved with heavy smoke and flames seen. Fire activity was so intense the crews had to initially fight fire from the outside of the home as reported by officials.
Fire crews say nobody was inside the home at the time of the fire. Carolina knew before the fire crews because she says she was one of the first people to knock on the door and check on her neighbors and their beloved dogs. Carolina says, “I prayed that there was nobody else in the house inside the house, nobody got hurt. When I first came up, I tried to call for them and I didn’t hear any dogs at all. So, I wasn’t sure if they were alive or dead.” Two dogs were found safe in the back yard, but tragically, GJFD reports one dog perished in the fire.
No people were injured but two adults have been displaced because of the extensive damage to the home.
