GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) – For all of unincorporated Montrose County, Sheriff Gene Lillard says fire restrictions have been lifted immediately. The choice was made in consideration of measurements of the fuel moisture in the vegetation, forecasted weather, and the prognosis for the possibility of wildland fires.

Visitors and locals are urged to use precautions when burning. When burning, please keep water and shovels nearby, and notify dispatch at (970) 249-9110 both before and after burning.

In order to prevent misunderstanding when recreation in the area takes place, the decision was taken in conjunction with partner organizations such as federal lands, weather partners, and neighboring counties. Please be aware of the local regulations and the most recent fire-related information before you travel and check westslopefireinfo.com. Resolution 43-2022, approved by the Montrose Board of County Commissioners in early June, grants the sheriff the authority to impose and repeal fire restrictions as necessary throughout the year.
