MONTROSE, Colo. — A popular candy shop and long-time Montrose employer will be closing its door for good next year.
Russell Stover announced Tuesday that they will be closing their Montrose location in the Spring of 2021. This comes as the company announces expansions at three other locations in Texas and Kansas, and multiple other closures across the country.
The chocolate empire sites “changing tastes and preferences” for the reasons behind the shutdown.
In total, Russell Stover says about 400 jobs will be affected, and employees have been notified of the impending closure.
According to the Montrose Economic Development Corporation, Russell Stover is the third-largest employer in Montrose, with a workforce of about 450 people.
It was noted that there will be opportunities for employees to move to new careers in the expanding locations in states other than Colorado.
