Montrose Sailor Receives Community Welcome

Local News

People in Montrose welcomed home one of their U.S. Navy Sailors on Thursday.

U.S. Navy Sailor Nick Kubin is flying back to his hometown, and to honor his service, the Montrose City Public Works department is hanging American flags along Townsend Avenue from the Montrose Regional Airport where he’s landing.

This all started with the community rallying and supporting Kubin on social media.

“They saw this really great online Facebook community that was basically saying, ‘Hey, we’re going to show some support for Nick.’ So, [the Public Works Department manager] told his workers to go out and hang flags from north of Townsend Avenue all the way down to the San Juan Bypass, so that the flags are hanging in front of the airport for his return”, says William Woody the Montrose City Communications Manager.

Kubin’s family tells us he’s looking forward to being back with his family and friends, while also getting some much need rest and relaxation.
