The Grand Junction Police Department is investigating whether alcohol was involved in an accident that killed a motorcyclist Friday evening.

The accident happened in the intersection of Patterson and 29 1/2 road just before 6 pm.

GJPD said the male motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on Patterson road, and was struck by a man making a left hand turn in a red passenger car from westbound Patterson lanes onto 29 1/2 Road.

The motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and died from life threatening injures at the hospital.

Authorities on scene said prior to the accident a citizen had called and reported that a vehicle matching the description of the passenger car appeared to be driven by a drunk driver.

At this time no citations have been issued.

The investigation is currently ongoing.
