Motorists Killed in I-70 Crash Identified

Coroner says Meeker man, La Jara woman died of multiple blunt force injuries

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The Mesa County Coroner's Office is releasing the names of those killed in a weekend crash on Interstate 70.

Officials say Linda Woodward, 73, of La Jara and Billy Steele, 33, of Meeker died on Sunday afternoon following the two-vehicle accident near the Horizon Drive exit.

Woodward was the driver of a Ford truck; Steele was driving a Chevy truck.

One of the trucks drifted over the median just before 4:30 p.m. and caused a head-on collision.

Woodward's vehicle caught fire, while Steele's truck was sent off the road into a ditch south of the interstate.

Mesa County Coroner Dean Havlik said Woodward and Steele were wearing seat belts, but they both died from multiple blunt force injuries.

A third person was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.
