Mudslide shuts down I-70 just west of Glenwood Springs

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. — A hailstorm struck in Glenwood Springs, and shortly after, traffic on both east and westbound lanes of 1-70 came to a stop.

The closure is just west of Glenwood Springs at MP 109 eastbound and MP 114 westbound. The mud is reportedly 2-3 feet deep. Crews are working to clear the road, but there is no estimated time of opening.

Our own Shelby Bracho and Logan Wilber happened to get stuck in the stoppage while out working on a story.

UPDATE (6:30 p.m.): Eastbound and westbound I-70 is CLOSED between Chacra (MP 109) and Dotsero (MP 133). Motorists should expect an extended closure with the possibility of lane closures remaining in place through the night.
