Multiple fires blaze in Colorado during weekend of June 18

Local News

Highway 139 is closed on both sides at Highway 64 and I-70 because of the Oil Springs Fire located about 20 miles south of Rangely. The fire is in a remote wilderness study area with rugged terrain so trucks could not get near it. At last report, the fire is 0 percent contained, the fire is at 500 acres, and smoke is visible from Highway 139, Highway 64, Rangely, Meeker and all surrounding areas.

Evacuations are in place in Sylvan Lake State Park as a wildfire which has already burned 180 acres continues to grow 12 miles south of Eagle. Firefighters say it is crowning and running, which is not good for them. It is being pushed by high winds and authorities are calling it extreme fire behavior.

Additional ground and air resources have been requested to get it under control. Firefighters have taken steps to protect structures at the state park. Other infrastructure at risk includes a major powerline in the burn area.

A wildfire at Mount Falcon park started Saturday flared up again Sunday promoting more air drops.
These are pictures from Saturday when lightning sparked a small fire at the popular hiking spot. Helicopters were back up this afternoon trying to gain control of the fire, and parts of the park were closed to the public while crews battled the flames.
