Emporium murder victim identity released

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.– An update into the death investigation from Thursday, February 6th at the Emporium in Grand Junction.

The Mesa County Coroner’s office has completed its examination and revealed the alleged murder victim to be a 24-year-old female…Jessica Strothman of Grand Junction.

Strothman was the female found deceased at the Emporium on North Avenue, midday on Thursday, February 6, 2020. The cause of death is a stab wound to the chest and the manner of death is homicide.

21-year-old Brachon Hyer of Grand Junction is in custody at the Mesa County Detention Facility for murder in the first degree aggravated robbery and theft.

Hyer is believed to be the man seen in security footage near where the crime occurred on Thursday. At about 3 p.m Friday Grand Junction Police Department made contact with Hyer in the 27-hundred block of G Road, after someone called law enforcement, saying Hyer had confessed to the killing.
