GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — For the fist time ever, the Grand Valley is home to Navy Week from July 22nd to the 28th.
This morning was the proclamation ceremony at city hall in downtown Grand Junction. The ceremony included performances by the USS constitution color-guard and the Navy Band Southwest.
US navy units are here from all over the country to promote outreach within the valley. They reach about 15 cities a year, and focus on communities that are not near the Navy’s fleet concentration areas.
Throughout the week, the navy will host community service, youth and education events. You can also find them at public events like Rimrock Rodeo, Grand Junction Rockies baseball games, and the Market on Main.
Navy week will finish off at the Grand Junction Air Show on July 28th.
