Neighboring City to Grand Junction Ranked 7th Safest in Colorado

Rankings Include 35 Cities Across Colorado

FRUITA, Colo. - A review done by the National Council for Home Safety and Security has released the rankings of safest cities in Colorado, and the city of Fruita has ranked substantially higher than Grand Junction, being placed at 7th between Parker and Castle Rock.

These cities were ranked based on the number of reported violent crimes and property crimes per 1,000 people in the area.

We decided to speak with Fruita residents who've recently moved to the city, and to those who've built families over the decades.

"We've been living here since 1971, and my husband and I, we came here from California with our 3 little kids and we just love it here!", says Joyce Dodson who's lived in Fruita for 47 years.

Joice is spending the day out with her friends and her mother, who also lives in the area.

Her love for the Fruita community would go on to bring 3 generations that currently still live in Grand Valley, a family that's only a 15-minute drive from seeing each other.

They love to stop in and say hello to Linda, who runs a small boutique in the heart of the city.

"Isn't that wonderful? I'm so thankful my family lives in the Valley, and we just love it!", says Dodson.

And what about the folks who've recently moved to Fruita? We dropped by the Hot Tomato where the pizza's fresh out of the oven.

"I enjoyed coming over to somewhere that's smaller, a little bit more of a community feel, and a place where I can ride my bike around or walk most places that I need to go", says Aaron Knapp who's one of the Supervisors for Hot Tomato.

And when Aaron's riding his bicycle around town, he often runs into a people that know him by name and wave to him from across the street.

"All of my neighbors have been super welcoming and would bring us stuff when we first moved in, and just very friendly", says Knapp.
