GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Garfield County approved a new updated concept plan to construct two large hangers at the Rifle Garfield County Airport.

Dark Horse Aviation submitted the concept plan, proposing to build two new hangars. One hanger is set to be 49,000 square feet and the other, 40,000 square feet.

Ryan Maxfield is the vice president of business development for Dark Horse Aviation and a life-long pilot. According to Maxfield, the design and ample remp room of the Rifle Garfield County Airport solidifies it as a reliable destination. Maxfield praised the airport in a statement to the board.

I began flying airplanes before I knew hoe to drive a car, so I have a unique background. I’ve been fortunate enough in my career to have flown into Eagle, Aspen, Telluride and Rifle, and you guys have one heck of an airport, and you should be very proud. In my mind, from a pilot’s perspective, Rifle’s always been a sure bet. … It’s a safe alternate, even if you’re not coming here in the first place.”

Additionally, the board approved an updated airport development guide. The updated guide details the rules, regulations, requirements and application procedures at the airport and lays new guidelines for leasing in four different development areas.

The plan was approved unanimously, 3-0. It can be views on the Rifle Garfield County Airport website.
