ORCHARD MESA, Colo. — There is a new school in town thanks to D-51 School District, and it’s rather unique.
Orchard Mesa Middle School’s building is now state of the art, keeping energy efficiency and safety in mind.
Orchard Mesa Middle School held a ribbon-cutting ceremony today introducing its new building, and highlighting its features.
Something D-51 Officials are especially proud of is its energy efficiency. This new building has LED lighting occupation sensors, a highly insulated building envelope, a storm drainage system designed to replenish groundwater, and lots of natural light.
Super Intendent Diana Sirko seems to be especially excited about the natural light– saying it provides an efficient learning environment.
But, energy efficiency isn’t the only perk this building has– it’s design is safer than ever.
The previous Orchard Mesa Middle School Campus had 7 buildings on it. This one only has one, making security much easier. The building also has a security vestibule when you walk in, where visitors must sign in before opening school doors.
