UPDATE: the Mesa County Coroner’s Office is releasing the name of the man killed during a weekend house fire.
Although tests are still underway, officials say 71-year-old Merrill Collom of Grand Junction likely died from injuries sustained during the fire.
CLIFTON, Colo. — One man is dead after a structure fire Saturday morning.
Shortly before 11 a.m., fire crews with the Clifton fire protection district were dispatched to Patrica Drive near 31 Road and F 1/2 Road on reports of a house fire.
According to the Clifton Fire Protection Chief, firefighters found a dead elderly male in a bedroom, where the smoke was coming from. No one else was in the house.
Firefighters contained the fire within 5 to 10 minutes. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Mesa County Coroner will be responsible for determining the man’s cause of death.
