GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - A 1.6 million dollar construction project is underway to improve a section of Orchard Ave. from 28 & 1/2 Rd. to 29 Rd. The road will be widened to three lanes with a turn lane in the middle. Crews will be working on utilities relocation; including electric, gas, phone, and cable lines. Also, drainage improvements will be made.
The project aims to make it safer for kids going to school at nearby Nisley Elementary. Because construction at Orchard Ave. is geared towards making it safer for kids, residents KREX spoke to, don't have a problem with the construction, but do ask drivers slow down. Monday though Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., crews will be out working so be prepared to take a detour to Texas Avenue. Construction is slated to end sometime in late October.
