GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Grand Junction Firefighters responded to a house fire early Thursday morning.

Crews responded to a fire report in the 2900 block of Hermosa Court. Firefighters arrived at the scene and found a single-family home with smoke and flames visible on the lower level of the house with everyone safely evacuated. Two dogs remained unaccounted for.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze and found one dog alive, but the other died during the incident.

The Grand Junction Police Department assisted with traffic control and public safety while the American Red Cross responded to assist the family displaced by the fire.

The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation.
