Path to School Made Easier

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - A new project is hoping to make the path to school much easier for kids.

Mesa County and contractor, United Companies have begun the last section of their continuous effort to provide a bike-pedestrian sidewalk between Vista Grande Drive and Kansas Avenue.

The $900,000 project is set to include a five-foot wide concrete path, landscaping, and curbs and gutters .

This ties in to the pedestrian bridge that was built nearby last year and the roundabout project CDOT is working on right now.

"Especially with the schools along that area, right now you see kids trying to walk along that shoulder , there's nothing there and same with the bikes. So it's basically for pedestrian safety," said Construction Group Manager Laura Page.

You can expect minimal delays with the possibility of alternating one lane traffic.

The project is expected to be complete before the school year begins.
