GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Colorado Secretary of State hopeful and indicted Mesa County Clerk and Recorder Tina Peters is moving forward with her request for a recount of the recent primary election results despite the hefty cost to do so.
The state will charge Peters $236,279.37 to conduct a hand recount of the primary election. Peters has indicated she intends to cover the cost and wants hand recounts done in selected counties but did not specify which ones.
Peters finished second in the election trailing Republican Pam Anderson by more than 88,500 votes. We’ve reached out to Peters for comment and will update this story as more information becomes available.
UPDATE
According to the Associated Press, Colorado’s secretary of state office has reached out to both Tina Peters and Ron Hanks to notify them that recounts of the primary election will not be done due to them failing to pay the fee by the deadline which was July 15, 2022.
