Police officers’ identities from Sportsman’s Warehouse shooting released

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Three officers were involved in the shooting at Sportsman’s Warehouse on June 10. Those officers are Detective Tim Janda, Officer Matt Parks, and Officer Chris Wilson; all three officers discharged their weapon.

Grand Junction Police officers responded to a report of a suspect wanted for misdemeanor domestic violence and a protection order violation in the area of Rocket Park earlier this month.

While contacting the suspect, a fight occurred and the suspect fled in a black Mazda.

Grand Junction Police Department later located the suspect parked in the parking lot of Sportsman’s Warehouse. The suspect was transported to the hospital and treated for his injuries. he was then arrested.

Matteson was arrested on June 24, 2021, and is facing the following charges: 2 Counts of Assault in the Second Degree, a Class 4 Felony 3 Counts of Menacing, a Class 5 Felony Violation of Bail Bond Conditions, a Class 6 Felony 2 Counts of Resisting Arrest, a Class 2 Misdemeanor 2 Counts of Obstructing a Peace Officer, a Class 2 Misdemeanor Matteson was also arrested on an unrelated Domestic Violence warrant. Matteson remains in the hospital in stable condition. He will be booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility upon release from the hospital. All documents, in this case, have been sealed by the court. This incident remains under investigation by the 21st Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team.
