The Horizon Drive BID Trail Network Plan identifies a series of proposed multi-modal trail connections around Horizon Drive.

One of the proposed trails will begin at the Doubletree and go between the golf course and behind the businesses.

It will then connect with the sidewalk in front of Safeway, and then continue on all the way down to the Riverfront.

Another one of the proposed trail will start at the Grand Junction Visitors Center and go by the irrigation canal and end over at Matchett Park.

Two other proposed trail loops will access workout stations and rest areas along the trail.

You’ll also be able to watch arriving and departing planes from one of the trails.

Bennett Boeschenstein says, “this area has always been somewhat isolated, and it’s actually very dangerous for people to ride bikes and to walk in this area. There have been a number of fatalities.”

Tonight is just the first step of many when it comes to adding these trails.

If the project gets the go ahead tonight, surveys and aquiring rights of way from private property owners will be the next steps in the process.
