Reptile Discovery with Didgeridoo Down Under
During this online event, Garfield County Libraries welcome wildlife expert Bruce Shwedick with Didgeridoo Down Under. Shwedick will tell his original stories “Isabelle and the Tortoise,” “Turkana Kitabu, and “Banana Boy, the Story of the Golden Python” as well as show slides, play recordings of Turkana children singing, and introduce the audience to the reptiles that inspired him to write. This online show will begin at 3 p.m. on Monday, June 14 and is free as part of the Summer Reading Challenge. Denver Downtown Aquarium Virtual Meet and Greet
Your Garfield County Libraries invite you for a virtual happy hour with some of the Denver Downtown Aquarium’s most popular residents which include an octopus, a sloth, and a porcupine. Join us at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 19 to learn about these critter’s daily lives in the aquarium and also about their natural habitats and lifestyles. Music with Pint Size Polkas
Your Garfield County Libraries have invited award-winning polka musician Mike Schneider for a special event to teach children about the accordion through story and music. Learn about how the instrument has been used by cultures around the world. Mike will discuss the history of polka music, including its influence on other forms of music. This online show is free as part of the Summer Reading Challenge and will be available to everyone throughout the week of June 21. Blood Drive
Garfield County Libraries is hosting a St. Mary’s Blood Drive at Rifle Branch Library. One donation can help as many as four people, and the St. Mary’s Regional Blood Center supplies all hospitals on the Western Slope. The blood drive will be held on Thursday, June 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants must make an appointment in advance and masks must be worn at all times. Music with Steve Weeks
Your Garfield County Libraries has invited back (virtually) award-winning songwriter and musician Steve Weeks. He will lead an interactive romp filled with music, humor, and games for young kids and their families.
