GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Firefighters were kept busy on the Fourth of July after a large brush fire broke out on Thursday afternoon in the Redlands area.
The Grand Junction Fire Department and the Bureau of Land Management were among the agencies responding to the situation, with BLM aircraft dropping water on the blaze.
Residents in the 500 block of River View Drive have been evacuated by fire crews. Other residents in the immediate area should be prepared to evacuate if required.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife has evacuated nearby Connected Lakes. Officials with the Red Cross are working to put together an evacuation destination.
An eyewitness believes the fire was started by fireworks, saying the blaze at one point was within 100 feet of a nearby home.
