Rim Rock Marathon Returns Saturday

Local News

GRAND JUNCTION-FRUITA, Colo.-The Rim Rock Marathon returns this Saturday.

Traveling through the Colorado National Monument, motorists should be aware of possible traffic delays caused by runners along Rim Rock Drive.

The event begins east of the intersection of South Camp Rd. and Monument Rd., at 8:00 a.m. and lasts until 1:30 p.m.

The marathon will have runners enter the monument through the Grand Junction entrance, and exit at the Fruita entrance, with the race finishing in downtown Fruita.

Rim Rock Dr. is open during the event, with the following adjustments made to provide safety for the 400 registered participating runners.

Rim Rock Dr. will be limited to one-way eastbound traffic, with up to 20 minute delays for eastbound traffic exiting through the Grand Junction entrance.

The westbound traffic lane will be reserved for marathon runners.

All vehicles will not be able to enter or exit the Serpents Trail parking area from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., but the trail itself will remain open.

If you’re planning on going to Glade Park from Grand Junction, use Little Park Rd. between the hours of 7:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Glade Park to Grand Junction can also use Little Park Rd. or Rim Rock Dr. eastbound, but keep in mind there could be delays eastbound on Rim Rock Dr.

Two lane travel on Rim Rock Dr. between Grand Junction and Rim Rock will be restored at 9:30 a.m.

Due to limited parking and one way traffic, spectators are encouraged to cheer for marathon runners at the finish line in Fruita.
