Bicyclist killed on Colorado National Monument road identified

UPDATE: The Mesa County Coroner’s Office has completed its examination regarding the death of
Julie Fredlund, a 58-year-old female resident of Grand Junction, Colorado. Mrs. Frelund
was the female involved in the bicycle crash on the Colorado National Monument on
September 22, 2020. The cause of death is multiple blunt force injuries and the manner
of death is accident. She was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — On September 22, 2020, a 58-year-old female bicyclist was killed while riding down the west hill of the monument at approximately 6:45 a.m. It appears that prior to sunrise, she hit small rocks in the road and lost control of her bicycle. She died at the scene. 

Responding agencies included National Park Service rangers, Fruita police, Colorado State Patrol and an ambulance. Rim Rock Drive was closed until 10:15 a.m. for the safety of the first responders.
