San Juan Nat'l Forest Supervisor Issues Statement About Closure

Durango, CO - Kara Chadwick, the Supervisor of the San Juan National Forest, issued a statement via YouTube on Thursday, explaining her decision to take the drastic move of issuing a Stage 3 Fire Closure, effectively closing the entire forest to the public.

In the 3-and-a-half minute statement, Chadwick said that her decision was based on the 416 and Burro fires that were still burning, the extremely dry conditions, and input from employees at the national forest as well as the public.

Chadwick said she understands the impact of what she did, but that it was the only way to protect the forest from further devastating fires.

Above is the entire statement posted on YouTube.
