GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — UPDATE (12/9): Deputies have identified and contacted this person. At this point in the investigation, deputies are still working to determine if he is the source of the sharp object the student found in their backpack. The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office believes this is an isolated incident. No other incidents have been reported.
The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office encourages parents to talk to their students when they are walking to and from school to pay attention to their surroundings. If they see something that is not right, run away and tell a trusted adult or call 911. Remember, students can also make reports through Safe2Tell.

He may have knowledge of an incident that occurred close to Nisley Elementary School.
Two siblings were walking along the 28 3/4 Road sidewalk when a man bumped into one of them and allegedly struck the student on the backpack.
After arriving at school, the student noticed his backpack was ripped and found an extendable razor blade inside.
The student told deputies the man was a white male, medium build and approximately 5’8″ in height, with short dark hair wearing a large puffy black jacket.
