Third dose of COVID-19 booster shot comes to Mesa County

Local News

MESA COUNTY, Colo. – The FDA along with the center for disease control has approved a third booster dose of the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccinations.

Mesa County Public Health will begin administering the booster shots on Wednesday, August 18th – no appointment necessary.

As of now the third dose is only available for immunocompromised individuals; this includes cancer patients, and those with untreated or severe HIV infection among many other immunocompromising factors.

Mesa County Public Health says there are steps you need to take in order for the booster shot to be effective,

“Immunocompromised individuals who are interested in receiving a third dose of an mRNA vaccine must wait 4 weeks after their second dose of that two step vaccine process,” says Mesa County Public Health’s Stefany Busch.

So far, the third dose is only for Pfizer and Moderna; those with Johnson & Johnson vaccines are not eligible for a booster shot yet.
