GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Former Mesa County Clerk and Recorder Tina Peters will be waiting for her trial a little bit longer than expected.

Her trial has been postponed to mid-October. The delay pushes the trial back roughly 7 months from its initial start date.

According to the Mesa County District Attorney’s Office, District Judge Matthew Barrett postponed the trial because key prosecution witnesses are not ready to testify.

The trial was delayed once already when officials moved it from March to August because law enforcement agencies needed more time to hand over certain seized electronic devices to defense attorneys.

Peters is facing several felony and misdemeanor charges in the case. Western Slope Now will continue to follow the progress of this trial as it heads to court.
