GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) – The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office received a report about two missing hikers as Grand Valley Temperatures soared toward record high today.
The search started around 1:30 P.M. and by 2:30 P.M., Deputies knew where the hikers were but had not reached them.
Officials say the hikers finally made it back to Trailhead of the Old Kiln Trail near Little Park Road around 2:45 P.M. just as temperatures hovered around 98 degrees.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, both hikers were suffering from heat-related illnesses but are expected to recover
Authorities say if you hit the trails always make sure you know your route, take plenty of extra water, carry your cell phone, take time to rest in the shade, and make sure someone knows where you are and when you’ll return.
