The United Way of Mesa County held an event Monday, to thank our community, for giving the organization hundreds of thousands of reasons to be thankful.

Through workplace campaigns, donations, and events, the United Way of Mesa County raised more than $869,000 from August to January, which amounts to 86% of the million dollar goal.

According to Honora Thompson of our local United Way, the organization is currently funding 47 local non-profit programs in health and human services from money raised during 2015.

This year, 48 organizations have applied to receive funding.

“It’s a huge amount we’re so grateful. It’s amazing in this economy that people are still willing to reach deep in their pockets and help united way and therefore the community” said Thompson.

Thompson also says that 100% of the money raised by the organizations is pumped back into the county, and it’s estimated that 1 in 3 people are touched by United Way programs.
