GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Thirty years ago the location for the riverfront at Dos Rios was used as a storage space for scrap cars. Now the Riverfront at Dos Rios is on its way to becoming a 58-acre mixed development.
It will consist of spaces for parks and industrial and commercial development. The city is currently working on the 10.8 million dollar horizontal infrastructure of the area, installing things like gutters, sidewalks, and putting in utilities. The aim is to pave a path for private development that is estimated to be worth about 80 million dollars so that people will be able to live, work, and play in the area.
Previously the Colorado Riverfront trail between Hale Avenue within the Riverside Neighborhood and South 7th Street/HWY 50 overpass was closed for construction related to the project. And within the next few months, additional temporary closures will be necessary for new segments of the Riverfront Trail to be constructed. But it is anticipated that future closures will not require trail users to travel over the 5th street/HWY 50 overpass.
