US 50 Remains Closed for Boulder Removal

REMOTE — At 3:00 p.m. this yesterday crews removed a compromised boulder safety from the mountainside. The Little Blue Creek Canyon project team and construction crews continue to work together to remove debris and rock from the roadway between MP 123 and MP 127.  US 50 will continue to remain CLOSED as construction crews work to prepare the area for safe travel. 

US 50 will be OPEN to one-lane alternating traffic beginning, Wednesday, May, 26 at 6:30 a.m. Road closures will continue during the day and afternoon as scheduled. 

“The roadway is fully closed in both directions and no vehicles will be able to pass. This extended closure is necessary for the safe removal of boulders,” says Kathleen Wanatowicz, Public Information Manager for the Little Blue Creek Canyon Project. ” In addition, no nighttime closures will be scheduled on Wednesday, March 26 and Thursday, March 27.” 

Emergency vehicles will be able to get through the project area.  

Arrowhead Residents: Access from Gunnison (east side) is possible for Arrowhead residents and Alpine Plateau Road, traffic control will be on duty. Detour routes are recommended.
