GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — The City of Grand Junction’s Destination Marketing Organization (DMO), Visit Grand Junction (Visit GJ), received the “Outstanding Marketing Program” award at the yearly Colorado Governor’s Tourism Conference. This prize honors a Colorado-based organization for a campaign that promotes travel and tourism with innovation and excellence.

Elizabeth Fogarty, Director at Visit Grand Junction, told KREX 5 News, “The Outstanding Marketing Program award means so much, not just for our staff and board who was a big part of strategizing this program but also for our community.”The locals, who make Grand Junction so special, were highlighted in the commercials she continued.

The show featured Grand Junction’s outdoor activities and distinctive scenery through a gripping narrative that showed Colorado locals overcoming a psychological or physical obstacle that was preventing them from taking advantage of the great outdoors. Fogarty added, “the six commercials we filmed included Grand Junction locals, which made this project even more special and authentic.”

Six Grand Junction advertisements were incorporated in the three Park2Park episodes. The Grand Junction episodes have received over 37 million views since the start of the series.

We couldn’t be more delighted,” continued Fogarty, “for the Colorado Tourism Office awarding Visit Grand Junction as the winner of the Outstanding Marketing Program. This achievement recognizes the support and effort from our community while rewarding the hard work and expertise of the Visit Grand Junction Advisory Board and staff.”

Last week, tourism experts and business executives from all around the state attended the three-day Colorado Governor’s Tourism Conference in Snowmass, Colorado. Destination management, sustainability, advocacy for responsible tourism, and emerging trends are among the topics covered in the sessions. This is the first award Visit GJ has won at the Governor’s Tourism Conference.
