GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Mesa County’s The Giving Club is in our 7th year of giving funds to benefit Mesa County nonprofits and the people and causes these organizations serve. Since beginning in 2014, the group has donated over $470,0000 dollars to 27 Mesa County organizations – $100 at a time.
The women’s Giving Club will meet on Monday, May 3rd at 5:15 p.m. at SpringHill Suites, 236 Main Street in Grand Junction. With more than 180 current members, this quarters total giving is anticipated in the $18,000 range. New members are always welcome and can simply show up at SpringHill Suites and join in the fun. Judy Vanderleest, a founding member of the organizing committee, says “Not only is my evening spent meeting new like-minded women in our community, it is spent learning about nonprofits I sometimes have never known about. Plus when I leave, I feel such a satisfied and rewarding feeling of knowing my $100 contribution is now part of a nearly $20,000 donation….I know I’ve made an impact.”
The club engages a simple nominating process that considers three nonprofit organizations at each quarterly meeting, with members voting to determine one agency to receive all contributions. Club members pledge to make four-$100 tax-deductible contributions each year, and also kick in for food and drink at each meeting. “Each member of these clubs makes a modest contribution, yet the collective gift is one of significant impact,” says Illene Roggensack, a founding member of the club.
