GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Two local cemeteries were filled with the sweet scent of pine and a beautiful sight of remembrance Friday as we honor our veterans for the holidays here on the Western Slope.
The Veterans Memorial Cemetery of western Colorado and the Patriot Guard Riders of the Western Slope have come together for the annual Wreaths Across America Ceremony and wreath-laying.
Wreaths were laid on every gravesite throughout the Veterans Memorial Cemetery and the Veteran’s section of the Orchard Mesa Cemetery.
Combined, that’s over 2400 tombstones decorated with holiday remembrance.
Worecester Wreath Company provides the wreaths to cemeteries across the United States. The company sure has its work cut out for them as this national effort is growing rapidly.
This year, all the graves were decorated in less than an hour, as opposed to the usual three hours, thanks to the huge volunteer turn-out.
You can view the display tomorrow at the Wreaths Across America ceremony, located at the Veterans Memorial Cemetary, 2830 Riverside Parkway, Grand Junction, from 10:00 to approximately 10:30 a.m.
