GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Authorities have identified the body of a Grand Junction woman who went missing last fall.

Grand County Sheriff Deputies in Utah identified a vehicle in the remote Book Cliffs north of Moab as a vehicle belonging to Melissa Gonzales. According to the Grand County Sheriff’s Office, “All aspects of the located vehicle are consistent with a motor vehicle accident having no suspicious circumstances at this time.”

A single deceased individual was found in the vehicle. The Utah Medical Examiner later positively identified the deceased individual as Melissa Gonzales.

Gonzales was reported missing on November 15, 2022. She was last reportedly seen leaving the 29 Mile Apartments in Grand Junction around 5:30 p.m.

Photographs obtained by the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office indicate Gonzales was driving a 2007 blue Honda Element with a sticker located on the lower right-hand side above the bumper. The sticker reportedly “has a star on it.”
