Mustangs Gallop to JUCO for Second Straight Year

The first team has punched it’s ticket to the 2019 Alpine Bank JUCO World Series!

The Monroe Mustangs are coming back to the Valley for the second straight year, after making it for the first time in 2018.

The 2018 “United Nations Team” swept the Eastern District tournament to officially punch their ticket. They beat Spartanburg Methodist 8-3 to become champs, coming to the WesternSlope with a (32-17) overall record.

Last year the Mustangs came to Suplizio tied as the No. 20 team in the country. They lost to JUCO powerhouse No. 6 San Jacinto in the first round, but then earned their first JUCO win in program history beating No. 8 Jefferson.

However, they were eliminated by San Jacinto who they drew the following round.

The Mustangs are now an experienced team with more offensive firepower from a year ago, so head coach Luis Melendez should have some fun come tournament time.

Monroe will play the Western District champions Saturday, May 27 at 7:30 p.m.
